About Me

I have been an English professor since 2009. I earned a B.A. from Central Connecticut State University, then an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. I have taught writing, literature, film, and gender studies from the developmental level to the graduate level in traditional, hybrid, and online formats.
My areas of expertise include American women writers, Civil War literature, and twenty-first-century American literature. I'm also an expert on teaching with technology, online teaching, and teaching with open educational resources. I am the author of a book, numerous journal articles and book chapters, and over 120 reviews, features, and essays on dance, performing arts, film, and culture.
I have loved music since childhood, as you can see from this picture of me playing a toy piano with my grandfather, who worked for a company that stocked jukeboxes with 7" vinyl record singles.
