writer| professor| musician | critic at large

I am a freelance writer
and critic at large.
My career began with a weekly column in my hometown newspaper while I was in high school. Today, I write about dance, culture, and performing arts for Broad Street Review, Philly's online hub for arts, culture, and commentary. Additionally, I am a contributor to MovieJawn, a writing collective dedicated to the love of film.
I have reviewed performances by BalletX, Philadelphia Ballet (formerly Pennsylvania Ballet), PHILADANCO!, Martha Graham Dance Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Rennie Harris Puremovement, and more. I strive to shine the spotlight on both established and emerging performing artists through dance criticism. My writing about film often focuses on work by and/or about women, LGBTQ+ folks, and marginalized voices.
Some of my greatest hits include
-
"The Best Kind of Body Worship" (review of Gunnar Montana Productions, BSR 2022)
-
"Grossing out the Patriarchy: 4 Great Recent Moments in Body Horror" (MovieJawn 2022)
-
"Labyrinth of Love" (review of Brian Sanders' JUNK, BSR 2019)
-
"Tiny Tim: King for a Day Celebrates the Virtues of the Authentic Self" (MovieJawn 2021)
