writer| professor| musician | critic at large

I am a freelance writer and critic.
My career began with a weekly column in my hometown newspaper while I was in high school. Since 2017, I have written about dance, culture, and performing arts for Philadelphia's Broad Street Review. I have been a contributor to MovieJawn since 2016.
I strive to shine the spotlight on both established and emerging artists. My writing about film often focuses on work by and about women, LGBTQ+ folks, and marginalized voices. I have reviewed performances by Martha Graham Dance Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, BalletX, Philadelphia Ballet, PHILADANCO!, Rennie Harris Puremovement, the Wilma Theater, and more.
My greatest hits include
-
"The Best Kind of Body Worship" (BSR 2022)
-
"Grossing out the Patriarchy: 4 Great Recent Moments in Body Horror" (MovieJawn 2022)
-
"Labyrinth of Love" (BSR 2019)
-
"Tiny Tim: King for a Day Celebrates the Virtues of the Authentic Self" (MovieJawn 2021)
