writer| professor| musician | critic at large
I am a freelance writer and critic.
My career began with a weekly column in my hometown newspaper while I was in high school. Today, I write about dance, film, performing arts, and culture. I frequently publish in Philadelphia's Broad Street Review and MovieJawn, and I contribute to other outlets including thINKingDANCE.
I strive to shine the spotlight on both established and emerging artists. I bring to this work reverence for art, passion for words, intellectual curiosity shaped by graduate study in the humanities, and personal experience with dance and theater. I have reviewed performances by Martha Graham Dance Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, BalletX, Philadelphia Ballet, PHILADANCO!, Rennie Harris Puremovement, Dorrance Dance, the Wilma Theater, and more. My writing about film often focuses on work by and about women, LGBTQ+ folks, and marginalized voices.
My greatest hits include
-
"The Best Kind of Body Worship" (BSR 2022)
-
"Grossing out the Patriarchy: 4 Great Recent Moments in Body Horror" (MovieJawn 2022)
-
"Labyrinth of Love" (BSR 2019)
-
"Tiny Tim: King for a Day Celebrates the Virtues of the Authentic Self" (MovieJawn 2021)
